Firstblood survives Furnace thriller and wins 30:29
Six lead changes, rockets across the map and a finish where one point meant everything.
DM-Furnace did not ask who could start loudest; it asked who could survive the final minute. Jano claimed the authoritative first blood at 35 seconds, dropping Klicka with the Enforcer, then added Firstblood five seconds later. Hemeroid soon turned the arena into a rocket workshop, building a five-kill spree from 108 to 202 seconds. The match gradually became a long duel between hemeroid and Firstblood, with Klicka and Jano repeatedly breaking their rhythm. After 1,306 seconds, six lead changes and a furious late exchange, Firstblood finally reached the 30-point target while hemeroid stopped at 29.
Jano opened the door, hemeroid stormed through
The first moments belonged more to mistakes than heroics: Smrtak registered a suicide at 10 seconds and Klicka followed five seconds later with a Bio Rifle mishap. The real first blood came at 0:35, when Jano hit Klicka with the Enforcer from 14.5 metres. Five seconds later he added Firstblood and took the first clear lead. Firstblood answered with the Flak Cannon at 85 seconds, but the strongest early surge belonged to hemeroid.
From 1:48 to 3:22, hemeroid killed Jano four times and Firstblood once, mainly with the Rocket Launcher, creating a five-kill spree. Jano ended it at 202 seconds with the Flak Cannon almost immediately after dying himself. By 126 seconds hemeroid had taken sole possession of first place. Jano had started best, but hemeroid was now dictating both the pace and the range of the fights.
Firstblood closed the gap with the Link Gun
The middle phase was no longer a one-way march. Firstblood leaned heavily on the Link Gun and steadily cut into the deficit between 315 and 455 seconds. At 455, after killing Jano with the Link Gun, he tied hemeroid at 10:10. Hemeroid answered immediately and at 487 seconds produced the longest kill of the match: a Rocket Launcher hit on Klicka from 93.6 metres. That rocket practically needed its own postal code.
The pace kept rising. The ninth and tenth minutes produced six kills each, hemeroid stayed in front, and another five-kill run stretched from 546 to 614 seconds. One second later he lost a point to a suicide recorded with the Enforcer as the cause. Firstblood used the opening, kept closing, and at 725 seconds killed hemeroid with the Link Gun to take his first sole lead, 17:16.
The lead changed hands like a furnace door
From there the contest became a ping-pong match for first place. Hemeroid tied it, Firstblood edged ahead again, then at 791 seconds a Shock Rifle kill put hemeroid up 19:18. Firstblood replied through the Enforcer and Link Gun, but hemeroid moved ahead again at 841. Jano and Klicka kept scoring of their own and, more importantly, kept interrupting momentum: Klicka produced a four-kill run, while Jano repeatedly punished hemeroid with close-range rockets.
After the longest quiet spell, 53 seconds following the kill at 1026, the decisive final third began. At 1099 seconds Firstblood headshot Jano with the Sniper Rifle from 56.8 metres to lead 23:22. Hemeroid tied again and then reclaimed the lead at 1176 by killing Firstblood with the Flak Cannon for 26:25. The sixth and final lead change was still waiting to be written.
Two headshots, five kills and the last point
The ending had the highest tempo of the entire match. The twentieth minute delivered eight kills and the twenty-first produced nine, the busiest minute of all. Klicka killed Firstblood at 1221, 1236 and 1242 seconds and seemed ready to wreck the leader's finish. Instead, Firstblood started his last spree at 1250: he killed hemeroid and Jano with the Enforcer, then at 1267 headshot hemeroid with the Sniper Rifle from 57.7 metres. The score was 28:28.
Hemeroid still found an Enforcer kill on Klicka at 1280 to reach 29. Jano had slipped to 19 after another suicide before recovering to 20. Firstblood did not blink: at 1295 he killed Jano with the Enforcer for 29:29, and at 1305 he cut down Klicka with the Link Gun. The 30th point sealed a 30:29 victory and completed the last of the six lead changes.
