Katami erupts as greg417 withstands Jano’s late rally
Jano stormed back with six straight kills, but greg417 saved the last word for a Link Gun.
DM-1on1-Katami hosted a Normal Deathmatch with a simple target: thirty points. Over 582 seconds, six players turned that straightforward rule into something much less predictable. greg417 eventually won 30–24 ahead of Jano, with hemeroid third on 21, Headhunter fourth on nine, Naboj fifth on eight and Trefa sixth on one. With fewer than a hundred seconds remaining, Jano closed to within a single point of the leader. There were two changes at the top, several impressive multi-kills, and enough self-inflicted rocket damage to keep any victory speech appropriately modest.
First blood before anyone could blink
Three seconds: that was all greg417 needed to put the first mark on the scoreboard. A Sniper Rifle headshot dropped hemeroid from 17.5 metres. At eleven seconds, a Shock Combo against Headhunter made it 2–0. Jano struck back with a rocket at sixteen seconds, levelled matters 2–2 at twenty-four and then killed hemeroid at 0:45 to take a 3–2 lead.
The response came through Headhunter. greg417 landed rockets at 0:47 and 0:53, going 4–3 ahead and forcing the second lead change. Jano tied it 4–4 at 0:56, but greg417 eliminated hemeroid at 1:04 and Jano at 1:07. That second hit registered as a Double Kill and made the score 6–4. The leader then managed to kill himself with a rocket at 1:19.
hemeroid joins the argument
hemeroid was not content to watch two players monopolise the drama. At 0:46, just one second after Jano killed him with a rocket, he struck Jano with a Bio Rifle. He later eliminated Headhunter at 2:22 and 2:27, then Jano at 2:31, drawing level with greg417 at eight points each. Seven seconds later, a Stinger kill against hemeroid restored greg417’s advantage, 9–8.
Headhunter supplied a memorable interruption as well. A Shock Rifle kill on Jano at 2:09 was followed by a Shock Combo on hemeroid at 2:11, earning a Double Kill. greg417 cut the celebration short with another Shock Combo at 2:12. Revenge was practically a second scoring system: the computed figures credit Jano with eleven immediate retaliations, greg417 with ten, hemeroid with eight and Headhunter with two.
Thirty-five seconds of silence, then Naboj
By 5:08, greg417 had seventeen points, hemeroid fifteen and Jano only eight. Then came the longest gap between kills: thirty-five seconds, from 5:08 until 5:43. Jano broke the silence with a rocket against greg417.
At 5:49, Naboj caught Headhunter with the Flak Cannon. At 5:50 he hit Jano with the same weapon, earning a Double Kill; at 5:54 a Rocket Launcher finished hemeroid and upgraded the sequence to a level-two Multi Kill. Then, at 6:21, Headhunter hit hemeroid with a Stinger from 38.7 metres, the longest registered kill of the night. Average kill distances tell their own story: 14.1 metres for hemeroid, 12.7 for Headhunter, 9.5 for greg417 and just 8.6 for Jano.
Six rockets worth of pressure
At 7:00, the numbers were greg417 nineteen, hemeroid sixteen and Jano fourteen. greg417 reached twenty-two points at 7:28, but Jano was already assembling his reply. From 7:27 through 8:06, he killed Headhunter, hemeroid, Headhunter again, hemeroid again, Naboj and finally greg417. All six kills came from the Rocket Launcher. It was the longest spree recorded in the match.
At 8:06 Jano stood on twenty-one points, only one behind greg417. The computed record leaves the spree’s ending opponent unspecified; at 8:09 Jano instead lost a point to his own rocket, dropping to twenty. Jano recorded twenty-nine kills, only four fewer than the eventual winner, but he also accumulated five self-inflicted deaths. He had the pressure, the weapon and the momentum; keeping his own score intact was the part that proved harder.
The last minute refuses to slow down
The pace accelerated as the clock ran out. Minute eight produced thirteen kills, minute nine twelve and minute ten fifteen, the busiest period of all. At 8:43, greg417 headshot hemeroid with a Sniper Rifle for point twenty-five. Jano suffered further self-inflicted losses, Trefa collected his lone kill against Naboj with a Link Gun at 8:45, and Naboj later took out greg417 with a Shock Rifle.
At 9:06, greg417 landed a Shock Combo on Trefa and Naboj for a Double Kill and twenty-seven points. A Stinger eliminated Jano at 9:13 for twenty-eight, then Naboj at 9:16 for twenty-nine, another Double Kill. Jano was not finished: he killed Trefa at 9:29 for his own Double Kill and hit greg417 with a rocket at 9:36 to reach twenty-four. At 9:41, greg417 took out Naboj using the Link Gun, reached thirty and ended Deathmatch 30–24.
