Jano steals Dusk victory with a final-second rocket hit
Just when hemeroid could see the finish line, Jano fired the last word.
Thirteen minutes, five names, a thirty-point target, and a winning margin of one. Match 321 on UT3.sk turned DM-1on1-Dusk, played in Normal Deathmatch, into a test of nerve in which even an eight-point advantage proved no guarantee of safety. Jano eventually beat hemeroid 30-29, but the runner-up kept the outcome uncertain almost until the final shot. The record contains exactly eight lead changes, relentless Rocket Launcher fire and the occasional reminder that your own explosion can be a formidable opponent.
Eight seconds to first blood
Jano claimed first blood at 0:08, eliminating RoCCat with a Bio Rifle shot from 19.3 metres. Eight seconds later Comboholic dropped hemeroid with the Flak Cannon, but it was hemeroid who first built a meaningful lead. Rocket Launcher kills against RoCCat, Jano and Comboholic gave him a 3-1 advantage over Jano at 0:34. The first minute produced eleven legitimate kills, more than any other minute of the contest, so there was little opportunity to settle in.
Jano answered almost immediately. A Flak Cannon hit on RoCCat at 0:37 was followed by another on hemeroid at 0:38, earning a Double Kill and tying the leaders at 3-3. At 0:47 he used a rocket to remove Comboholic and seized the initiative. As the match unfolded, suicides would subtract nearly as many precious opportunities as their opponents did.
Jano accelerates through the third minute
At 1:12 Jano killed hemeroid to make it 5-5; by 2:52 a close exchange left Jano ahead 9-8, and twelve seconds later the margin became 10-8. Then came his highlight-reel sequence: a kill on hemeroid at 3:04, another against RoCCat at 3:05 and a third on Comboholic at 3:09. The log credited a Double Kill followed by a Multi Kill. The score had reached 12-8, a useful cushion in a match whose fortunes kept swinging.
RoCCat still found two sharp replies against Jano, at 3:10 and 3:27, while hemeroid remained within reach. Nevertheless, Jano moved to 17-12 by 5:26 and, after another rocket against hemeroid at 6:23, enjoyed a commanding 21-13 lead. His weapon numbers explain his style: 28 of his 37 kills came with the Rocket Launcher, while his average killing distance was only 8.8 metres. It was aggressive, close-up play with clear rewards and a high price. Seven self-inflicted deaths meant that even this eight-point lead could evaporate.
The Bio Rifle powers a comeback
After the sixth minute, hemeroid appeared to be staring at a mountain. Rather than surrender the chase, he began closing the gap through persistent use of the Bio Rifle. He eliminated Jano at 7:15 and continued collecting points as the lead gradually contracted. Comboholic disrupted both front-runners in an impressive burst from 8:20 to 8:31, collecting three kills; the Stinger strike against Jano registered as a Double Kill. At 8:43 hemeroid used the Bio Rifle to kill Jano, leaving the leaders at 21-19.
At 9:27 and 9:32 hemeroid struck Jano twice more with the Bio Rifle. The first hit came from 40.9 metres, the longest confirmed kill of the match; the second covered 33.4 metres. His average killing distance was 15.6 metres, compared with Jano’s 8.8. Jano managed Flak Cannon kills against hemeroid and Kemper, but the gap kept shrinking. By 10:28, after a frantic exchange and another rocket-related suicide by Jano, the two leaders were level on 25. Seven seconds later hemeroid killed Jano with a rocket and moved ahead 26-25.
Kemper runs riot, then the last 45 seconds
After 10:35 there was a remarkable 42-second gap between kills, the longest quiet interval in the log. When the action resumed at 11:17, hemeroid advanced to 27-25. Yet a third name had begun dominating exchanges: Kemper built a six-kill streak running from 10:01 until 12:08. He eliminated Jano twice with the Stinger, added Flak Cannon kills against RoCCat and Jano, and eventually took down RoCCat using the Link Gun.
RoCCat ended Kemper’s streak at 12:08 with the Shock Rifle and beat him again at 12:23 with a rocket. The final countdown was as close as the scoreboard suggested. At 12:31 hemeroid moved to 28, Jano reached 27 at 12:39 and 28 at 12:45, then hemeroid grabbed a 29-28 lead at 12:50. With three seconds remaining, Jano struck RoCCat at 12:57 to equalise at 29-29. At precisely 13:00 he hit Kemper with a rocket, earned a Double Kill and completed the 30-29 win.
