Jano conquers Katami with a fierce rocket-fuelled finish
Seven changes at the top, then one explosive answer from the champion.
DM-1on1-Katami was hardly a quiet arena on 24 October 2026. Five competitors—Jano, hemeroid, Trajbalajka, greg417 and Strelko—entered a Normal Deathmatch with a target score of 30. Over 13 minutes and 40 seconds, the lead changed seven times. Surprisingly, the eventual champion did not score the first point: after just four seconds, hemeroid hit Trajbalajka with a Flak Cannon from 1.5 metres. The log records 109 kills against opponents and another 17 self-inflicted deaths. Those unforced losses became nearly as important as the spectacular attacks, especially for the eventual winner. What looked like a simple race to 30 quickly became a contest between relentless pressure, survival and the courage to launch one more rocket.
First blood before anyone could blink
hemeroid struck first at four seconds, but Jano answered with a rocket against Strelko at nine. Strelko returned the favour with a Flak Cannon at 21 seconds, while Trajbalajka eliminated hemeroid with a Bio Rifle at 25. Nobody had the luxury of settling in. The early exchanges were quick and close enough to make each step dangerous.
Jano lost a point to his own rocket at 37 seconds. Meanwhile, hemeroid collected the match’s first Double Kill at 60 seconds with a Bio Rifle hit on Strelko immediately after killing Trajbalajka. After two minutes he led Jano 6:4, with Strelko also on four. The latter turned into Jano’s personal nuisance: all six of his kills were against Jano before he left at 224 seconds.
Long shots and very short fuses
At 168 seconds, Trajbalajka scored the match’s longest confirmed kill, taking out Strelko with a Bio Rifle from 30.3 metres. Jano, by contrast, leaned heavily on his Rocket Launcher, sometimes with painful consequences. At 153 seconds, a rocket hit left him with just one health point before a self-inflicted rocket death appeared in the log at the same time. His persistence still paid off: by 243 seconds he had reached ten points to hemeroid’s seven.
greg417 recorded his first kill at 237 seconds, using a Flak Cannon on Jano. He disrupted several leaders and, at 368 seconds, landed a rocket Double Kill against hemeroid. The punchline arrived only one second later when his own rocket killed him. Skill and self-sabotage shared the stage. The sixth minute was the busiest of the night, producing twelve valid kills—more than any other minute.
A one-point lead is not a cushion
Jano owned much of the middle phase, but hemeroid refused to disappear. Jano took him down with a rocket at 354 seconds for a 14:12 advantage. greg417 kept interrupting both contenders, while Trajbalajka changed between the Bio Rifle, Stinger and Link Gun. At 422 seconds, hemeroid scored a Shock Combo kill on Trajbalajka and continued to threaten the lead.
At 536 seconds, Jano reached twenty points with hemeroid on seventeen. Around 600 seconds the margin had shrunk to 20:19. Jano’s rockets offered tremendous firepower, but self-inflicted explosions at 606 and 648 seconds erased newly earned points. By 700 seconds the leaders stood at 23:22. The official seven lead changes were no decorative statistic: even in the last two minutes, there was no room for carelessness.
Five in a row, and one final rocket
The decisive surge began at 700 seconds. Jano hit hemeroid, then Trajbalajka, then hemeroid once more, and Trajbalajka again just two seconds later. That 744-second kill registered as a Double Kill. Another rocket found Trajbalajka at 752 seconds, giving Jano a five-kill streak and pushing the score from a 22:22 tie before the streak to 27:22. It was the match’s longest streak, built entirely on Rocket Launcher kills.
After a kill at 756 seconds, the action paused for 27 seconds, the longest gap between valid kills. At 791 seconds, hemeroid ended Jano’s streak with a Shock Rifle, as greg417 also killed hemeroid with a Bio Rifle at that timestamp. Jano still controlled the finish: he blasted hemeroid at 800, Trajbalajka at 808, and greg417 at 819 seconds. The last rocket sealed the 30:24 win.

Jano won on DM-1on1-Katami with 30 points, followed by hemeroid on 24, Trajbalajka on 19, greg417 on 14 and Strelko on five. The winner recorded 36 enemy kills but also six suicides; this was victory through sustained pressure, not tidy perfection. hemeroid averaged 30 seconds alive per life, compared with Jano’s 22 seconds. Nevertheless, better survival did not translate into the higher score. Jano’s willingness to attack again after each setback eventually won the race to 30. If Katami has one lesson, it is to watch the enemy’s rockets—and occasionally your own.
