XMblPb breaks Rankin with a seven-kill comeback surge

DM-Rankin-2010 opened with almost everyone except the eventual winner in the spotlight. Bogota scored first blood at 0:36 with a Sniper Rifle headshot on Stingray, while Stingray built an early lead and reached nine points before six minutes had passed. XMblPb did not record his first frag until 6:46 and initially looked far removed from the race. That changed gradually: a chase became a duel with Bogota, and the duel became a showcase of how seven unanswered kills can overturn a Deathmatch at exactly the right moment.

Bogota struck first, Stingray controlled the opening

Bogota opened the scoring at 0:36 by headshotting Stingray with the Sniper Rifle from 10.6 metres. Stingray answered quickly, and the lead moved among Bogota, Stingray and Granatnik before Stingray took sole control at 1:59.

Stingray pushed hard with the Flak Cannon and produced the longest kill of the match at 5:29, hitting Granatnik with a Rocket Launcher from 42.8 metres. He reached nine points, but his run ended early; after a suicide at 7:14 he dropped to eight. Flak was already shaping the match and eventually accounted for a match-high 30 kills.

XMblPb arrived late and had to absorb punishment

XMblPb first appeared in the kill log at 6:46 with a Bio Rifle frag on Stingray, then hit Bogota six seconds later. A suicide immediately cost him a point, Comboholic stopped him twice with the Link Gun, and Bogota added a Stinger frag. Bogota then settled into the lead as the early leaders disappeared.

Shock Combo provided the first sign of the comeback. XMblPb used it on Bogota at 8:32 and on Comboholic soon after, then mixed Shock Rifle, Bio Rifle and Flak. Bogota still led 12:8 at 11:20 and 15:10 at 15:00. XMblPb nevertheless averaged a slightly longer kill distance, 14.8 metres to Bogota’s 13.2, fitting his growing reliance on Shock weapons.

Nanoblack disrupted the duel while Bogota stayed ahead

Nanoblack entered the late phase aggressively. At 15:14 he killed Bogota with Flak, then took XMblPb with a Rocket Launcher. At 16:37 and 16:38 he eliminated Bogota and XMblPb one second apart with the Link Gun for a Double Kill. Bogota still protected the lead and stood at 17 points to XMblPb’s 12 at 17:13.

The pace was rising sharply. The 19th minute was the busiest with seven kills, while the longest quiet spell lasted 57 seconds after 3:50. Revenge numbers underlined the tension: Bogota and XMblPb each recorded 12 revenge kills, so almost every successful exchange threatened to come back immediately.

Seven kills turned the scoreboard upside down

At 16:54 XMblPb started the decisive spree. He killed Nanoblack, then Bogota, Nanoblack again, Bogota twice with Flak, Bogota with Shock Combo and finally Nanoblack with another Shock Combo. Seven kills without dying across 99 seconds took him from 12 to 18; he tied Bogota 17:17 at 18:19 and moved into sole first place at 18:23. Nanoblack ended the spree at 18:33.

XMblPb immediately resumed. He avenged that death with Shock Combo at 18:41 and completed a Double Kill on Bogota four seconds later. From there the main rivalry tilted hard: XMblPb scored 21 direct kills on Bogota while Bogota managed eight in return. The winner’s signature was 12 Shock Combo kills, backed by 11 with Flak.

Bogota kept fighting, but XMblPb owned the finish

Bogota still produced late kills and briefly cut the pressure with Link Gun and Rocket Launcher hits on XMblPb. The response was immediate: XMblPb kept scoring with Flak, Shock Combo and Shock Rifle and maintained control through the closing minutes.

The final logged kill came at 22:24 when XMblPb hit Nanoblack with Flak from 20.3 metres. The final standings gave XMblPb 31 points, Bogota 22 and Nanoblack nine. XMblPb finished with 33 kills, 17 deaths and two suicides; Bogota had 23 kills, 36 deaths and one suicide. What looked like a close chase became a nine-point victory because the late surge never stopped.

Match moments
  • Bogota scored first blood at 0:36 with a Sniper Rifle headshot on Stingray.
  • Stingray landed the match-long 42.8 m Rocket Launcher kill on Granatnik at 5:29.
  • Nanoblack completed a one-second Link Gun Double Kill on Bogota and XMblPb at 16:38.
  • XMblPb produced the longest spree: seven kills from 16:54 until Nanoblack stopped him at 18:33.
  • XMblPb tied Bogota 17:17 at 18:19 and took sole lead four seconds later.
  • XMblPb versus Bogota produced 29 direct kills, with XMblPb winning that duel 21:8.

Rankin told two different stories. Bogota opened with a headshot, Stingray took the early lead, and Bogota then controlled the middle phase. XMblPb, however, averaged 52 seconds per life and turned Shock Combo into the decisive late-game tool. Nanoblack stopped the seven-kill spree, but not the comeback itself. The final 31:22 looks comfortable only after the fact; the route to it ran through a five-point deficit and one ferocious 99-second sequence.

Player verdicts
  • US XMblPb — A late start became a decisive comeback. Shock Combo, a seven-kill spree and 21 direct kills on Bogota made him the clear MVP.
  • UA Bogota — He scored first blood, led for a long stretch and owned the only headshot. The final third exposed the cost of his open style: 36 deaths and no answer to XMblPb’s surge.
  • B Nanoblack — Nine kills, a Double Kill and the frag that ended XMblPb’s seven-kill spree. He repeatedly disrupted both leaders in the closing phase.
  • B Stingray — Excellent opening, early lead and the longest kill at 42.8 m. His participation ended after 434 seconds, so the promising start could not develop further.
  • B Granatnik — He stayed with Stingray and Bogota early, but all seven kills belonged to the opening phase. Flak Cannon worked best for him at very close range.
  • B Comboholic — Short but annoying impact: two straight Link Gun kills on XMblPb and three Rocket Launcher kills. A Shock Rifle suicide cost him one point.
  • US Ahmadco — He played 66 seconds without a kill, death or damage event. The data supports only the conclusion that his participation was very brief.

    Who killed with what

Each player's kills split by weapon. Reveals every fighter's favorite tool.

Flak Cannon led the match with 30 kills, followed by Rocket Launcher with 14 and Shock Combo with 12. XMblPb scored 12 Shock Combo kills and 11 with Flak; Bogota split seven each between Rocket and Flak and recorded the only headshot.

Bogota leaned on an aggressive Flak Cannon and Rocket Launcher mix that produced quick frags but also frequent trades. XMblPb gradually shifted from Bio Rifle toward Shock Combos and Flak, giving him both mid-range control and close finishing power. Item collection was almost even, 15 to 14, so weapon adaptation and aggression timing mattered more than a clear item monopoly. Once the duel narrowed to XMblPb versus Bogota, Shock Combo punished repeated approaches without forcing every fight into point-blank range.
